For You

The hour is drawing ever nearer.  Jesus knows his time is nearly up.  What does he choose to do with his final words in this Upper Room?

He prays.

He commits all that he’s just said to his Father in heaven.  And then he prays - not only for those in the room with him, but for you and me.

Did you catch that?  Jesus expends some of his final breaths on this earth praying for you.  Take a moment to just let that sink in.  Thousands of years before you were born, Christ was praying for you.  In that upper room, as he set his face to the cross, he was thinking of you.

And, not only then, but also now.  For, as we well know, the grave could not hold him.  This same Jesus rose to eternal life, and ascended to the right hand of the Father, where he now sits, ‘always [living] to intercede for [you]’.

Jesus’ prayer for you wasn’t a one hit wonder.  Instead, as our forever high priest, he is always mediating on your behalf.  Hebrews goes onto say that ‘such a high priest truly meets our need’.  And isn’t that what we’ve seen at every point in the Upper Room? Jesus has met the disciples’ needs, questions and fears at each turn, and covers them in prayer as he prepares to leave.

Dear sister, marvel at this truth as we leave the upper room: Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.  He prayed for you then.  He’s praying for you now.  And he is the one who truly meets your need.
