Rich Soil: Growing Together in Friendship & Faith

You may think that because we’re sisters, we’ve always been the best of friends.  Or you may have daughters, or have sisters, and know that, really, that can’t have been the case!

The latter is of course true, and whilst our friendship has grown substantially since we both became Christians in our twenties, it’s been intentionally seeking to read the Bible together that has super-turboed our friendship beyond our imagining.

There’s something beautiful that goes on, in the ebb and flow of opening Scripture with another sister in Christ, enabling faith and friendship to grow together.  In the intentionality of meeting up, even just for twenty minutes each time, there’s a willingness to go beyond the surface chatter that fills most of our days.  In the intimacy of meeting up, just as a two or perhaps a three, there’s a vulnerability and prayerfulness that is welcomed by each other.  In placing an open Bible at the centre of our conversations, there’s an eagerness for the Lord to be at work as we meet.  And then, add in the consistency of meeting up, through the ups and downs of any given season, and you’ve got the rich soil for friendship and faith to grow.

There is no doubt that the last four years have been rich in growth for us, as we reflect on how we’ve grown in friendship and faith together.  We are deeply thankful for all the ways the Lord has encouraged, sharpened, rebuked, trained and challenged us through his living Word, and how we’ve been able to speak the truth in love to one another in ever deepening ways.  And yet, in his kindness, the growth hasn’t been limited to within the confines of our sisterhood and friendship.  Every time we receive a message about others opening the Bible together, and appreciating the joys of one-to-one Bible study, we do a happy dance, praising God for the overflow of growth to others!

We’re in a culture that hungers for in-person connection and friendship like never before.  In his grace, the Lord has given us a wonderful means to friendship and faith growing hand in hand - and it starts with an invitation to another woman to open the Bible together in everyday life.  It’s been our prayer from the beginning that every aspect of this podcast would encourage, equip and model what it can look like, and it continues to be our prayer as we press on together in faith!
