The Words of Christ

If you’re reading this, the chances are you’re not a stranger to the podcast, or to the fact that we consider it one of the greatest gifts to read God’s Word together.  The Lord has done much in us, through us and for us through the simple means of opening the Scriptures together.

And if you’re reading this, you’ll probably have heard us encourage you, at some point, to get the Bible open with someone else too. It’s the drum we keep on banging.  But why?

Come with us for a moment, and consider what we’re told about the words of Christ, simply from John chapters 12-17:

It comes from God the Father and by it, God does his work.

It teaches and it brings peace.

It prepares, it cleanses and it brings joy.

It glorifies and it reveals.

It testifies, convicts, exposes and guides.

It speaks of the past and it speaks of the future.

It brings clarity and it brings life.

It stirs obedience, brings knowledge and brings certainty.

It protects, it sanctifies and it brings unity.

It reveals the living God to us.

That’s quite some word.  These words are unlike any other words crafted in all of history.  As Deuteronomy warns us, ‘They are not just idle words for you—they are your life.’ So come. Come to these glorious words knowing that you will almost certainly be changed by them. Come, with a prayerful and expectant heart, ready to ‘hear and obey’.
